There is no question that the Evermotion model collections offer up one of the best variety of current and up to date models anywhere on the internet. With two new collections every month, they are doing a wonderful job at ensuring the architectural visualization community has access to many cost effective and high quality models.

Each collection is available in either a downloadable or box version for only 99 Euro, so they are extremely economical. All collection come with 3dsmax and OBJ formats and most in 3DS and DXF format as well. The models come un-textured.

In reviewing many of the models I did find some definite areas for improvement. Overall I would say most of the models could be optimized for a bit better polygon efficiency, but given that some might require shots that have the models much closer to the camera I could concede this point, however, there are several objects I found that are meshed far too much for any circumstance. As long as you don’t mind crunching the models through your renderer a bit longer, I think most will find the model resolutions acceptable, for others there may need to be some optimization in advance.

While the models are divided into objects based on likely material finishes, the decision not to name any of the pieces in any of the collections is something that really bothered me. Call me a bit picky about how I like my scenes set up, but I for one hate seeing obj01, obj02, obj03 anywhere in my scene. This might be ok in a small scene, but in a large commercial project it does not take long before it becomes completely unmanageable. Not to mention the problems that arise when the same part is named the same for many different models. The decision not to group or attach the objects also makes importing the models and then selecting them a very unwieldy task. I also found several of the earlier collections contained a camera, ground plane and light, which really should not be there.

Consistency between models and collections is also lacking and although the model parts are not named intelligently or uniquely for that matter, there appears not to be any consistency with how they are named or set up. Some models group parts, some attach them, some do neither.

If you are willing to overlook the poor model setup and naming structures or spend a bit of time cleaning them up yourself, then the collections themselves are quite impressive. Model detail and general quality is quite high and as I mentioned earlier the variety and overall usefulness in most commercial scenes is excellent.

If Evermotion improves the critiques above in future collections, I think they will have an incredibly solid products that should be in everyone’s model collection.
