Whinter night rendering

I always like it when people attempt winter images, maybe because its so rare. But as an architect in one of the coldest cities on earth, I think the affect of snow on aesthetics of architecture aren't considered often enough. Its something that should be embraced and used effectively. Now to the criticism. As has been said, you need to make all of the lights much warmer, almost orange. Even the exterior globes. Those would never have white light as you are showing. The snow is quite good but looks too smooth. It should have a little "sparkle" to it as light glimmers off of the surface. The clay roof tiles you are showing are almost never used in a cold climate - of course I'm assuming the location :D. Lastly, the icicles. Icicles happen but only where buildings have heat loss. The heat escapes the building causing snow accumulation to melt and then refreeze. As this repeats icicles form. A properly insulated and constructed home will NOT have icicles hanging from it :D

Dear Frosty, thank you very much for your post ! I find it very useful for the future. To mention, I am just the 3D Artist, the architecture belongs to someone else, it`s a prefabricated house, maybe that`s wy it`s not so spectacular ... I don`t know, not my business. I was just asked to make this kind of atmosphere. I agree with your criticism, hope to have the time to retuch it a little. The icicles were more for fun and atmosphere , most of us probably didn`t thought about the circumstances in wich the icicles form. So I guess it`s a bad house with heat escapes , I should probably break a window also :d . Thanks again, I would like your critics in the future also, very precise . i was just thinking of this thread again yesterday. i bought a copy of snowflow and was playing around with it for the first time. looks pretty good so far, but i wonder how you select multiple objects to apply snow too ? it seems like you have to do it one object at a time.

Hi, i`m glad my work can be inspiring or so... Yes, i done it for every tree separatly, as for the terace that was a hihg poly mesh made manualy (the parts between the tiles). I like it a lot, but I agree that there is a bit more work needed on the interior, as noted in previous posts. But otherwise, I really like the snow and the colors.

I'd definately agree - look at making the interiors warmer and more inviting - the strength of the blue in the surroundings will set this off nicely.

Hi thanks for the comment, the thing was that the client asked for this specific angle, so ... maye when I have a little spare time I will do different angle o.

Thanks for your comment neko, I did a little post prod and light up more the christmans tree, maybe a little more should be enought. The snow on the hils and on the terrace is manualy modeled, the snow on the trees and bench other high poly objects is generated by a real nice plug-in called SnowFlow , here`s the link to their website http://www.zwischendrin.com/en/detail/107
