thanks all, BVI and Gavin, these days it feels like every second job i do has a thatch roof, so getting lots of practice mustafa: its a simple clip map (made from maps found on cgtextures and google) angled and projected on the roof, in Sketchup believe it or not, attached a small version of the map i used.
