The Watchmaker

18th century watchmaker's studio, showing a marine chronometer, astrolabe, and other period artifacts. Baroque style lighting and composition inspired by artists such as Vermeer and Rembrandt. Constructed with 3DMax, Vray, and Photoshop. C&C welcome.

wow! How much of this image is done in post vs in render? Is watchmaker real or CG?

A few render passes were composited to create the effects you see, and the volume lighting was a separate single-bounce vray fog render that was composited. The watchmaker is the only photographic element in the piece. A couple of small details were painted in photoshop. Thanks for viewing, Jeff! Let me know if you have any other questions.

I love seeing characters in visualizations, similar to a film scene or Rockwell, Hopper, etc. Some clients appreciate the expression of the intent of their design, bringing aesthetics and functionality together. How do you all feel about storytelling in visualizations?

Very cool its great to see something other than abstract architecture at sunset. The dude is really well comped in and im all for storytelling in vis, i think if you have the abillity to pull off a 'moment' in your images it will stand you apart from the vray-super scientists. Anyway, caught my eye because its on the same lines as something im trying to conceptualise for a comp.

Thank you Javad and Jon Paul. I think architectural viz could take a few cues from cinema, and vice-versa! Finding creative ways to enhance the impact of images. Here's one for cinema: more IES lights.
