The Making of Hunter's House

The Hunter House is a project made by Yurii Krivohatko and Sergey Ferley for the private clients from Moscow. This building is situated in Russia on the Azov seaside and will be used for summer living by a few families whose hobbies are hunting and fishing.

I completed this image in one day. Due to the short time frame I tried to simplify some stages of work. I tried to make the simplest render and put the most attention on creating atmosphere in post work.

Here is how I did it.

Modeling

Modeling was done in Rhino. The roof was made using Paneling Tools.

Textures, Lights and Render

Export model in DWG for 3ds Max.

Like I said before, it is very simple scene, just some lights and simple materials.

VraySun and some VrayLights with warm light inside the building.

I then rendered the scene using Irradiance map and Light cache.

How it looks. Very simple:)

Of course I rendered some additional layers, like VRayRenderID, VRayRawReflection, VRayRawRefraction etc. It's always very useful.

Post Work

I made a panoramic view from a photo taken from the site.

Some perspective corrections.

Using the photo from the site, I added some details on the first plan.

More details.

Adjust level corrections layer.

And make the color corrections with color balance layer

Add a dramatic  evening sky.

Work with the sky.

Drop in the rendering.

and additional render elements.

I then made some changes to the texturing of the roof and the interior.

Added warm glow light inside

and interior details using reference images from Google.

I then inserted a few figures of hunters. Often I use Flickr and Google to find the correct people for every image.

A bit of work with horizon line.

Add fog and smoke.

For smoke and fog I used B&W images  "screen" mode in the layer blending with opacity from 10 to 50 for different elements.

Birds

and the final color corrections.

I hope it's useful for someone!

Best of luck!

Sergey Ferley.

I love the organic flow of the structure. This is a spectacular design for a private home. I'm betting the construction techniques are very interesting.
