Photoshop CS2 HDR support

Adobe announced that with the release of CS2, Photoshop will have HDR support for the production of HDR images:

No. Since the release of Photoshop 2 cranking up the brightness/contrast and RGB values were integrated, which basically is hdr (high dynamic range). The only thing that's new is the format and extension .hdr.

For those who like to experiment with it, the possibilites are endless for producing spectacular hdr images for usage in rendering, but that is more for those who recognise the creative power of hdri. I've seen an introduction and it gives the creative world more options, that's all. So my answer to your 'is this a new thing' question is...'no, it isn't, it's an extension'.

What other "new" features does CS2 have?...i would like to know if its worth an upgrade...coz as it turns out, CS was a disappointment to me...

Hi,

I'm also still running on PS 7.0 since upgrading to CS wasn't all that after trying out for a few days. The changed UI and only some minor new features to celebrate means always a decreased productivity before I know where to find tools immediately. It takes days to get familiair with the new things, like with most of the new releases in graphic tools, by the way.

But since the rumour got out (few months ago in januari) that HDR production within' PS was one of the new features, I started thinking about upgrading. There are some reviews on the web and it looks promosing enough to go for an upgrade. The day will come that you'll have to so I think now is a good time to go for an upgrade with the release of CS2, pricing is set to acceptable $ 599 (upgrade for $ 349) so why not. The official release is somewhere in may.....

The HDR part that's new is not clamping the levels to a fixed bit range of data (8bit, 10bit, 16 bit....) and losing the 'full range' that the HDR is so useful for as an .hdr file in other apps. This allows for cine files and acouple others that have a similar native data range/interpretation, to be converted to the.hdr file format with out or with minal data loss.
