Hey Guys,
I recently noticed that Asus updated their website, specifically the processor support section. Though AMD denies the fact, I have gotten confirmation direct from Asus. Dear Customer, Thanks for choosing ASUS tek. A7M266-D can support to Athlon XP 2600+(266M FSB mode 8 ) with the bios version 1007 or later , and can support to Athlon MP 2800+ with bios 1010 or later, please refer to : http://www.asus.com.tw/support/cpusu...pusupport.aspx Best Regards, ASUS Customer Service Center Shanghai Xixi_Sun" <tsd@asus.com.tw> According to AMD, the Rev 1.03's don't support tbred nor barton. Anyway just wanted to let you fellows know, that it appears that ANY Rev of the A7M266-D will support the new 2800+ MP Barton's. Good news for those of you (like me) who are looking for an inexpensive upgrade. (Under 600 USD) |

Hi Greg,
I need your wisdom on this one. I just recently purchased the MSI K7D Master-L and was wondering how you rate it. I read some good reviews on it on www.2cpu.com web page , but I want your expert opinion on it. Thanks in advance. J. PS: Here are the specs: web page |

Seems to be a bit of speculation right now, that the 3000+ and 3200+ ratings for AMD chips are a bit optimistic, generally for performance in all benchies.
However, the Pentium 4 seems to really need that 800fsb to take the crown, off of the AMD chips in performance benchmarks. Plus the fact, that Intel solutions never give you the upgrade options for mobos as old as A7M-266D. I am sorry i did not buy one now, over a year ago! |

JPS,
Its a good board. It has its peculiarities as with any board on the market, which you can find out more about at www.2cpu.com's forums. Gare, Ya I agree about AMD's PR ratings. They've gotten a bit more...aggressive with them. The older pre tbred ratings were much more realistic in their speed comparisons. I won't even get into the new opteron naming scheme. <shudder> |

If you buy unbuffered ram, you will ONLY be able to use two dimm slots.
If you later want to use 3 or 4 dimm slots, you'll need to chuck the 2 1 GB dimms you bought, and purchase all new REGISTERED ECC Dimms. With registered ecc dimms, the board has 4 slots, with unbuffered, it has a max of 2. And you can't mix the two types. http://www.mushkin.com/cgi-bin/Mushk...2/Catalog/5404 I'd pay the extra 10 dollars for registered dimms. |
