Yep me too. So far I have not been thinking in terms of 30 fps, but a really great sequence of images - maybe more like 4 fps, with a really rockin' soundtrack!

Is China PAL or NTSC (and is France still SECAM)?

I would recommend that we keep one minimum resolution size as some may want to use a portrait aspect instead of a landscape aspect.

Hello Olivier,

Actually 320x240 or some resolution using one of those numbers as a minimum resolution would allow for some nice rendering quality - anything larger is going to ask for some kind of give and take.

Hello Chen,

I would prefer quicktime format if possible or a choice of a few formats for the movie.

Anyway, you hardly see anything bigger than this on the web... and also nice for us because it will devide by 4 the rendering times...

Jeff,

What's the story with this whole renderfarm access thing?

This competition started in February. At that point, the parameters and conditions were outlined for each of these challenges. All competitors were aware back then that they would have 15 days to produce their 20 secs and that it would be produced from one of the previous two models. Jeff, you yourself reminded us of this on the previous challenge.

So why are we now questioning the time available? Competitors should have been approaching the previous two challenges in such a way that they would either have the capability to produce an animation by brute force alone or have structured a model in such a way that it could be broken up into separate scenes within an animation and thus cut poly counts and frame rendering times. i.e. This should have been considered this two months back. That was the brief. Forward planning. No different to any commercial commission.

With regard to hardware access, of course everyone's working on an unequal footing. As they have been for all the challenges. This is about skills and not what's in the plastic box on the desk. This is especially true for this challenge.

That's my tuppence anyway.

Niall Browne.
