Default Software Audio/Video Mixing and Voice Over

For the SIGGRAPH awards ceremony I'm working on the video edit and had a couple of questions that I'm hoping someone here will know.

1. Becuase there will be multiple videos and music, voice overs etc I was wondering if anyone knows of a good and relatively inexpensive software video/audio mixer on the market. In the past I've just put everything into one long edit with black frames inserted between the various awards sections, but ideally I'd like to be able to have several audio and video pieces all queued up on my laptop that I can fade and mix between in real time. Is there such a thing?

2. I'm looking at having pieces of the video awards done up with voiceovers like a real awards ceremony. I've attached an MP3 of a voice talent I found at an online voice talent agency and am waiting to hear back from them on pricing. Do any of you have contacts for a female voice talent that has the same voice style as the attached MP3? What sort of costs do you pay?

Thanks!
Jeff

Another budget-buster?

Actually, my sister that I'll be seeing in a week in CA used to be a radio DJ and pro voiceover. I've been trying to get her back to work. However, she's an AOR-format sort of voice, not the edgy sample you have. Do you have a script? Looking for a stereo or mono track?

Actually, why not get some local to do a Bob and Doug for a case of Moosehead? Wear you flag with pride!

As for software--I hate to even say it--but couldn't PowerPoint handle that? I don't know much about it (you saw my one and only use of it at the ASAI talk) but it is supposed to handle that sort of task. Not cool enough for a SIGGY party?

I will have a rough script by tommorrow. Would need to be stereo and edgy like the sample.

If I knew of some local talent, I might. I have to ask around to some local friends.

I think there is a program called something like "ar-choas" (maybe some body can confirm?) which can be used for mixing video in realtime. this might be what your looking for? not sure about price tho.

After a quick search i can correct myself!! The software is ARKaos. however here is a link to a site about VJ-ing (like DJ-ing but with video) http://www.vjcentral.com/ the site may be worth having a look over and there is software section which lists freeware / shareware VJ apps.

Good luck Geoff and i'd be interested to findout how you've got on with any of the apps you try - maybe others would be too?

I haven't tried it yet but, the Ventuz software looks promising for this type of live presentation.

Also, as mentioned, VJcentral has an excellent forum site.
