Default User controls to spin a 3d object.

I have no idea where to start this project. The client wants a quote before I start and have no idea how had it will be to learn and if I will need to buy a plug in or a program. I have already made a model of a train for another animation. The client wants a game type program that the user can choose the color of the train and add or delete cars in the train or take away the engine or caboose.
There will not be that many color combination or that many cars they can add, co I can just make for instance trains for each color and then just make a set of each with 1 to 5 cars and that will cover the possibly. this can be a static choice, meaning I can make images of each set and just have the user see a different web page based on their choices. Sorry to ramble, but I need you to understand what I am doing, now the fun part.. once the use is happy with his combo of color and amount of cars, The client wants them to be able to click a button and then a 3d model will open where the user can drag and control the way the train spins, in any directions.
Thanks for any direction as to where to look or how to accomplish this.

Have a look at Quicktime 3D /Flash - there's a tutorial online that shows you how to control a object as it spins round - they did a project for the western Australia museum:

should be a start! -

Hope it helps

thanks derijones
I need to go a little furture than the object spin. I need to be able to spin up and down and over as well as left and right. there is a plugin a http://www.cebas.com/products/produc...8-33-788&PID=9
that can do this, but i have not had any experience with it. I am looking for this kind of movement or better. Forget where I have seen it, but i have seen many palm pilots and telephones that can be spun around and the user can see all sides.
thanks for your help

look into Shockwave/Macromedia Director. you'll be able to do everything you mentioned..

Director's learning curve could be alittle step in a short period of time, send me a private message and I'll give you a quote ..
