hi,

you could get the glow effect either by setting up an objetc ID and applying Effects > Lense > Glow set for corresponding object ID or by setting up an effects ID to the material and applying Effects > Lense > Glow set for corresponding Mat. Effects ID. This goes for Scanline Rendering. But this would seem artificial.

if you use mental ray renderer with mental ray shader's lume tools (Glow & Glare) it renders the glow or flare effect not only on the source object but also on the reflected surface which is a common phenomenon in real world.

and to remind u, some of the shaders in mental ray are locked which you have to unlock by editing the

\3dsmax7\mentalray\shaders_standard\include\lume.m i and removing the lines quoted as "hidden". but before in hand make a backup of the .mi files that u are going to edit.

thanks

hi there,

i agree with shan ... you can use the video post to give the glow...

but that wont add to realism... well actually it depends what pupose exactly you need the glow for ...

if it is for some interior scene .. i wd suggest you use mental ray lume tool shaders . they are an amazing way to acheive the desired g;ow effect ...

if u can telll us in more detail about the scene that u r trying to set up .. i think we can help u better..

best luck

kamal

Assuming this isn't for an animation, I always use PS to create glows. Just create a selection for the areas you want to glow, copy up a layer or two, and blur a little. Or you can even render a self-illumination pass and set it to screen blend mode in PS and blur that once or twice. True, the glows wont appear in reflections though.
