Default solids disappear when they are blocks ???

from the attached the arrows point toward a fence conponent that are blocks that were like the one shown shaded. now that they are blocks
shade doesn't work....

these need to be blocks because the design will most likely be changed.

i think i found out why.

if they the block are scaled different than 1.0 in x y z they won't shade.

Have you tried creating either custom door, window or even better a railing component, this way you could change height, width thickness. Another way may be to make them mass elements.

this sounds like a good answer but how do you create a railing conponent with a big "X" in it...

I am gonna BUMP this thread cuz I kind of think it is related to the problem I have, but then again, maybe not.

Blocks in my drawing also disappear when I go into a shaded mode. I know the blocks are still there - if I highlight the area, the block appears selected, but if I go to orbit around, the block is gone.

I honestly don't recall this being an issue on previous versions of AutoCAD, but on 2006 it is a fairly big problem for me.
