Archicad & 3d Studio Max materials issue

I am having problems assigning matrials in max to my model imported from archicad . The biggest issue is the generic naming of the objects when imported.
Does anyone have a decent process they use or will I have to rename each of the 100's of objects in my scene. Ive also tried to obtain material from object and just change the material properties but this doesnt seem to update all the objects with the same material names attached to them

change export setting in archicad /select objects by material in max is sometime usefull too/

i downloaded the plugin and the material replacer works great.
Thanks martincg im sure the select object by material idea will be usefull as well
