Howdy y'all!
I submitted these four renderings to VizMasters a couple weeks back, but I guess I'm not quite there yet. It's not often that I get to do residential interiors, but I try to give them my all when they do come across my desk. So rather than sulk in the corner I wanted to put these to the forum and ask: What should I pay more attention to the next time around? These particular images were rendered in Max 7 with V-Ray 1.47.03, with some minor post work done in Photoshop CS. Unfortunately I only had five days to produce these four images, but compared to my previous residential work I think they show marked improvement. How would you suggest I take these further? Thanks guys, much appreciated! Shaun |

Shaun that is high quality work bro. If they didnt put you up for vizmasters those ppl's monitors must be messed up or something. Only thing I dont like is the exterior on the second shot. Everything else is AWESOME! Hey did you model everything or did you get some of those models from somewhere, and if so from where?

I think they are excellent, very nice work indeed. I agree about background in second image. Only thing I guess would be to push them even on step further in Photoshop and add the little details where things look a little antiseptic like where the tile floor meets the floorboards in the bath, etc. and other areas where there may need to be be a bit more of a defined edge. Thats being super picky though...
Keep up the good work. -=Rob |

Thanks guys. My boss just (astutely) pointed out that perhaps they only consider new entries monthly. I figured since they send out a weekly email it must be done on a weekly basis, but I don't browse VM myself very often so I wouldn't have noticed. Sorry if I've jumped the gun.
Agreed on the second backdrop. The tree's too thin -- I substituted a ground level shot when an elevated angle was needed. Drat! Rob -- not too nitpicky at all. Definitely agreed. I'm eagerly awaiting the new VRayDirtmap shader, but Vlado's keeping the beta closed now. You could do it in Photoshop, but it came down to time constraints really. The client was swapping refrigerators on me up until 5 minutes before I had to render! We model everything custom according to spec'd materials from the designers. In our free time we're building a Turbosquid library, but it's slow-going. Check us out! http://www.turbosquid.com/Search/Ind...lAuthorExact/y Thanks for the kind words, guys. Shaun |

Very nice. One crit i have is to add some specular and bump variation to your wood surfaces. They sort of look like plastic.

hey. These are really good render man. I love the lighting and the most of the textures and the overall style of them. However, I do agree that the scale of the floor in the first render is way too small.
I'd also like to add that The first bathrrom scene. I think the tiles in the bath could do with some more glossines. They look abit rough for a new bathroom. I also think the shower curtian has a fabric look to it instead of a shiny plastic shader. Excellent stuff though Ant |

I think the quality of these images is excellent (although the exterior view does look out of place).
However, in my opinion, it's more of a technical triumph than an aesthetic one. The images just don't really please the eye and I think that's one of our main goals. I'd agree about the Photoshop suggestion-just try to lift them a little. Great work in the timescale though. Very realistic.
