Flying out to Boston this Friday for Siggraph - can't wait. If anyone has got any tips on great bars, architecture, art and must-see Boston sites it would be great if you could post them here for us Boston noobies.

I've not been to Boston yet, but I've had others stay there. Here are a couple of noteworthy Boston activities:

Thanks for those Brian - I had a look at the redsox site but it looks like they're sold out unfortunately.

Just had a look at the website of the MIT visual arts centre http://web.mit.edu/lvac/www/general/index.html which looks like it could be worth a visit. I think there's some pretty cool contemporary architecture at MIT too.. Gehry and the like

My wife and I will be spending the weekend in Boston after the convention before heading over to New York (other thread) for a few more days. I've heard there is a good Revolutionary War tour that I'd really be interested in.

I have a feeling there's going to be quite a few reminders of how you kicked our a*se back in the 1770s! It'll pay me back for my amusement when I found out the London branch of the french company we've been working for is based in Waterloo..

Usually when I'm enjoying Boston I'm just walking and taking photos. The Common is beautiful, and if you walk to the northeast side of it you can go up Beacon Hill and gawk at some of the most desirous real estate in the city. ;-)

Check out the observatory in the Hancock Tower, they have glass on all sides and in the core a physical model of Boston. They do a little audio/lights show ever 15 minutes or so telling the story of the city during the revolution.

80% of my recreational time in the city is usually going to shows -- there are a lot of great venues and this summer's seen a lot of awesome artists come through.
