Default nurbs modeling problem

hi all
I am modeling an object with nurbs, it's very complicated right now,
And when I want to modify it take a long time for update dependents… is there any way to split a nurbs surface like SLICE ? using the slice modifier convert the nurb to editable mesh and damage some faces… please help

and another question is ,how could be export a curve in nurbs object to editable spline?....
