How to open max 8 files in previous versions?

Is it possible to open max 8 files with previous version without losing any information like textures coordinates, materials, lights, etc.

Nope. The best you can do is export to 3ds and import into Max 8.

yes it is possible to use max 8 files in previous versions using the bff maxscript. I've used it for my scenes and works great. Since .3ds file format has limitations all the info is normally not exported...but with bff you can do alot..give it a try.
