I have long wished for the randomized approach. I have faked it. I have not enjoyed faking it. Most often, out West, I was working with a lot of split face CMU and a fractal noise of just such a size makes a darned good split face. EXCEPT it should not run across from block to block. n different noises jumbled amongst the tiles and walla, I'd be done.
