Talking MOI (Moment of Inspiration)

From the creator of Rhinoceros comes...

MoI (Moment of Inspiration) is a new 3D modeling/CAD program for designers and artists.
Offering a blend of precision and freeform drawing tools, it sports a unique user interface that operates seamlessly with a pen tablet (a mouse is also supported).
MoI is currently in open beta release. If you're looking for a fresh, fluid way to draw and create CAD-accurate 3D models, then download the beta and give it a try!

ya

i'd say it's more like Rhino LT. but with the ability to use a tablet better (not that i don't use a tablet for everything, tabletPC on the go and Tablet wacom @ home)

as far is being like autocad, haveing the abilities of and beyond, that's Rhinoceros 4

I'm still not buying into this Rhino replacing Autocad idea. Can you show some examples? Where it's used as the CAD package for a full project, with plans, sections, elevations, wall sections, detailing, scheduling, annotation, furniture and finishes, etc.? Can you layer, version and Xref? Draw quickly is 2D? Print a 100-sheet set in under a minute? Is it efficient when your building is rectilinear and rather normal?

I still think of Rhino as being for the same things I used to use Alias for, but maybe they really have branched out that much...

I love Rhino 4 and I have almost switched over to it exclusively for my day-to-day 3D needs but i also don't see it as being able to replace Acad for a full on architectural CD set. I think it WILL be great for sketches, details, answering RFI's, etc. Anything where you don't need more than three or for sheets to describe. The real strength will be for the people doing product design who have had to take their Rhino models into another package in order to make attractive documents. But so far there is no way I'd want to do an entire CD set solely in Rhino.

Now, since I no longer really have to do CD's and primarily do 3D work now, the ability to print an occasional plan or section is quite a nice feature that will keep me away from having to pop open autocad to do something simple like print or annotate. I'll still need Acad to clean up files I get from architects using it for their own CD's, but I've been using it less and less for my own small projects.

I've been thinking about getting a tablet so I can get better with Painter so maybe I'll give this other program a try too.

FOGlite thanks i am looking for this type of user experience
the user base of Rhinoceros v4 is very small at the moment as it is in beta and not many people use it yet.. although it is a production ready beta

i agree with you that still having autocad to open clients files with layout tabs (because that is the only data Rhino does not yet read from a DWG file)

i suggest check out ArtRage i use that rather than Painter or Alias Sketchbook and am very happy.

but i disagree with you that it can't do full CD sets as this is my dirrect experience doing:

& 3d animations and visualizations.

Bright days ahead for the open minded experimentalists

As it matures we help it mature through our feedback sugestions etc.
I have found McNeel to be among the best tech support I have ever had.
And being a worker owned company means allot.

crashless, and with out limitations (beyond thouse of your hardware, witch it runs on the weakest of with intent)
