Im curious to know how many people use the AEC Wall feature to create walls, or do most create boxes? What if any are the advantages of using the AEC Wall feature? Normally I create walls w/ boxes, but Im modeling a building that has no straight walls relative to the UCS. I can't figure out how to quickly create walls (using the box method), w/o changing pivot points & rotating the wall to match the plan. Or is there a way to create boxes @ angles similar to the way AEC walls are created?
Thanks |

i doubt you'll find anyone veteran user using AEC walls...they are completely useless in my opinion and should have been removed long ago...there's 2 main methods people use...lofts/sweep (the way I prefer), and edit polys.

I would disagree with this statement, they work fine, and linking them into viz works great... ADT has many more options to offer in creating and editing many of us model outside of viz and link in which i would consider one of more main methods of doing this... i have done both using the features of building walls and other architectural objects in viz is ok but quite limiting... sorry but but there are lots of veteran users of AEC... just look in the forum for it... |

Ok, so why do you say they are worthless? To me it seems they are useful in some cases, such as drawing walls that are at different angles relative to the UCS, instead of drawing a line-->outlining--> then extruding. Its 3 times faster! Also the built in justification for center right & left seem handy. Not to mention you can create a whole string of walls in the same operation that are all connected. & it automatically mitres the intersection of angled walls.
I find the AEC railing very beneficial. So what are the major drawbacks for using AEC walls? Can't you just convert them to edit poly, & be fine? Pleae explain. |

sorry looks like i misunderstood the question
however, i have tried AEC in Viz and thot it was fine i think for general modeling it is the best thing to use.. but since so much that i have to work off of is given to me in DWG i just prefer to go with ADT to create the model then link it... actually, unless one does not have ADT the linking is really the best way to do this.. my 3 cents. |

Does VIZ have AEC content that Max does not have? If not I really just dont understand the benefit anyone finds with this content type. Of course you can create a wall and insert doors and windows in seconds, but what good is it without the versatility to create complex wall styles, detailed trim features, etc. Are you just using it as a base from which to box model your features? Maybe i am just missing something.
