Ahhhh!!! no no no!!! Lightscape is NOT incorporated into VIZ or MAX. While the desired outcome is the same and the technology similar it IS NOT Lightscape. It is like comparing Brazil to the MAX/VIZ renderer or Vray to MR. It is not the same...repeat after me people "Lightscape has NOT been incorporation into MAX or VIZ and I will not believe the markting hype anymore" Sorry this is one thing that drive me wild when I hear it. Because most resellers and vendors are not educated in the technology that drive these programs, they over simplify by equating Lighstcape to VIZ/MAx because they think it brnigs things to the lowest common denminator and makes it esier for people to undestand, when in fact all it does is piss people off. I can't tell you the number of people that bought VIZ/MAX becuase they thought the results and interface would be the same as Lightscape.
Anyway as far as I am concerned Lighsctape still renders better better quality. Admitantly LS does lack many of the great feature that are in MAX/VIZ, but I am still using LS until the speed an quality improve or until I have time to learn Vray and Brazil.
On another note and more in following with the contents of this thread, I spoke to the guys at Lightscape/Discreet and was told that the licensing agreement will still be intact even though the product is discontinued. Also, you may want to look into the legality of being able to transfer licensed too as Adesk just recently banner the sale of ACAD on ebay so I'm assumign that it is probably a company wide policy. Personally I think it should be a free for all, but hey that's just me.

Long Live Lightscape!

I would guess that the number of people that use lightscape and not viz or max was so low that they could not justify the cost of maintaining it as a seperate program...personally I am glad it is incorporated, it is easier to get my employer to buy one program then it is two...
