Sketch and toon for 3D max?

Please could any one enlighten me as to weather or not there is a add on or plug in for 3D Max that dose the same thing or similar as the sketch and toon addon for cinema 4d?

Cheers

Matt.

I'm not familiar with sketch and toon for C4D but I use finaltoon from cebas for creating linework sometimes and I like it a lot.

I've used both Cinema and Max for this. For Max, there's nothing as good as Sketch&Toon. The included mental ray contour system and Ink&Paint shaders are usually passable for the linework, but Final Toon is much better in terms of the control you get. For shading, I've done some by using basically every trick I could come up with for NPR styling - reflections combined with Output shaders combined with ambient occlusion and a separate shadow pass with comping in Photoshop and grain filters applied to the shading but not the linework biased toward the dark stuff, etc. (I wish I could show you examples but they were for private projects.) You need to use your own style to pull it off well because there's nothing that does it for you. You can also Final Toon over a GI render but you need to keep it from getting photorealistic.

You can try the Ink'n Paint material that already comes with Max (and a lot of Photoshop). Then, if this is not enough, then you can consider buying finalToon.

Can do it with mental ray quite easily.

That's a good one but unfortunately nowhere near as good as Cinema's.

You could consider exporting from max into Sketchup6 and using the new styles options: http://www.sketchup.com/?sid=487

I've also seen, but never tried, a plugin called Pencil+ 2 from a Japanese company that does toon style renderings for around $300. If I remember right, there was also a seperate soft style NPR plugin from them too.

...found it: http://www.psoft.co.jp/en/product/pencil/index.html

Again, I've never tried it, but it looked good.
