[I have edited this message on 11/19/03 to be more clear.]

I have just started using VIZ4 and am using George Omura's Autodesk VIZ4 book as a teaching tool. My goal is to create Image #3 shown below. Please review the images below, and help me answer any of the following questions listed below:

1. Is Image #3 shown below difficult to create?
2. Am I on the right track?
3. Do I need more detail in my AutoCAD drawing?
4. What are the order of operations I need to complete to produce Image #3 shown below?
5. How many hours would it take a trained professional to create Image #3 shown below?
6. Any tutorials you would suggest that take you from start to finish for creating a building?

IMAGE #1: I have used 2004AutoCAD_LT to create Image #1 shown below.

IMAGE #2: I have used Autodesk VIZ4 to create Image #2 shown below.

IMAGE #3: My goal is to create Image #3 shown below.

hi There

JAVB,

The amount of Time remaining to finish This
would depend upon your level of experience,

more with VIZ than Autocad.

the rest of the modeling That you need to do
should Take only hours, then FileLink into VIZ

and then add Materials, Landscaping and then of course

the Rendering. This is the major TimeSink

i used to Think that The Modeling was the most Time consuming, now i know That adding Materials and Then tweaking the Image by rendering

(over and over again till it really looks good)
is what Takes up The Most amount of Time

it depends upon your expectations as to the Level of detail and realism

my 1st VIZ projects took 4x (or longer) than the Time it Takes me to do The Same Thing now, as you do more projects you will be able to shorten the Learning Curves.

maybe hours for one person would be a day or Two for someone else (like me)

(ok, i am being somewhat vague)
but The answer To This really can vary

****

since you are asking The Question
i guess i would say That This would

Take you a day or Two (The 1st Time)

but This could possibly be 4-8 hours worth of work
once you get The hang of how the workflow process

between Acad and VIZ works

****

Thanks

Randy

There is so much To Learn at 1st, its get easier The more That you work with VIZ or any other 3d CG package

hi There

JAVB,

VIZ has certain advantages in modeling
but it is a "surface" or mesh modeler.

Autocad has solids to work with (3d faces too)

VIZ has more capabilities for curved objects
Acad has more precision (imho) it is a matter of choice

all of the Textures, Lighting, landscaping, and then the
background environments maps will have to be added in VIZ

if you had the full Autocd2004 you could use the VIZ render (which i have NO experience with)

hopefully someone who has ADT can add to your efforts

you can use LT for the original polylines
then extrude in VIZ, this should work well

***

another is to render the building and then make a composite Image in FotoChop

Thanks

Randy

ok, im a newbie too , but maybe i could say somethings.

1) basicly i use ACAD to build up the prject, and VIZ to add the materials (rendering), of course VIZ can build up things, but as i said before ima newbie with it.

So....with that being said, i can say that your project in Acad doesnt have the terrain levels, all the terrain is in 1 level (thats what i see with your first image), but the image youre trying to recreate (2nd image) have a terrain with more that 1 level, i mean, its a terrain with elevations. So you could add the grass, paviment, etc with VIZ, but they will be in a flat level surface, not with a slope.
