Default Creating nice ground, terrain

I am currently working on an outdoor scene!! My first! It is based in a forest and I need to create a "full" looking ground. I have layered tons of textures in photoshop and have put a a displacement map in certain areas etc...It looks ok but I still need branches, grass etc...I tried using image planes for grass but I do not like it, I also tried using Max's hair and fur for grass and I do not like it either....I am thinking it's a combination of things, maybe add more displacment maps and then maybe image planes combined?? Anybody have any thoughts?

thanks

Show us some renders of what you have already and then we can tell you what we think will help!

sorry about the delayed responce, been a busy day...

anyway i think you've madde a good start and feel that when you add some tree's / bushes etc it'll break up the visablity of base which will help a lot. I think your right that you need some branches and how about also some scattered leaves...??

You mention hair and fur for the grass, if you have the render power available you should be able create some nice results with it, maybe a case of experimenting further. Alternatively use displacement as again mentioned or last but not leaset simple bump.

hope that helps, its not much different from what you already mention... you seem to going in the right direction. Try adding in some of the other elements and come back to ground element later... i'm sure it won't look as bare then!!
