Default Update

I have added in underwater terrain, and widened the shot to see more surroundings. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

I don't get a sense of depth of field or scale. I think if you choose a viewpoint that's this high, you need to make it look like the castle is large and off in the distance.

I will try a higher camera, but I don't want the castle to be small and off in the distance, I like the fact that it is massive and you can see detail of the main subject.

Yeah, I wouldn't do that either. With this view it doesn't look massive. It looks like a model castle that's the size of a small car. I think you need to use depth of field to make it look massive.

The volumetric light effect on the building looks good. I like camera view that you were using initially. Try different FOVs and use atmospheric effects to get some depth in the composition. Once you introduce some entourage into your scene the scale issue will not be much of a problem.

Brian,

I love the tones and hues of your lighting setup, I almost half expect a fish to swim out the entrance portico! If you are not going to change the camera setting anymore, I would suggest adding just a bit more negative space to the top of the image. I feel that the space above there is a bit too tight in comparison to the negative space you have framing either side of the building. Though I know what your are saying with respect to wanting to see the whole building yet not be too far away. I think I often have the same problems where my camera fights with the desirable layout.

Will you be covering parts of the building with sand sediments other than the coral, plants?

yes they are quite right: without the underwater things you won't be able to give the picture the underwater-feeling. Why don't you consider 'spoiling' the model a little bit, salty water probably erodes masonry... Or is it not salty? hmmmm
