Default Zoltan Kovacs - Story

Protecting Democracy

O: Keep this boat steady, soldier; the lake surrounding this castle might be not big but it is surely deep enough. This Island Mansion was chosen as a place for the International Democratic Leader’s Summit without consideration for any security measures. That is why, people like us, the regular officers of the security police, have to wreck our brains thinking of how to protect all these “big fish” making their important descisions.
S: You are right, sir.
O: Consider the arcade supporting the stairs...the whole squadron will be needed to protect these rows of columns. And the stairs, they are good to wave at people and pose for pictures but any decent sniper can bring a person down on these stairs from any of the towers of the Mansion.
S: That is, sir, unless we put our own snipers in each of those towers.
O: You are smart, soldier, that is why you are in the security police. Tomorrow at this hour, when the sun is rising and the first guests and participants of the Summit are arriving, we will have our soldiers on every upper-level balcony. We will secure every square meter of this vast English garden, every lamp post, every statue. This place will remain open and inviting but it will be as fortified as a citadel.
S: Sir, wasn’t that a fortress before? I though we are working for providing security at a democratic summit meeting?
O: Son, it was a fortress for centuries, and from the beginning my ancestors used to serve here protecting it. It is a matter of honour for me now. These arcades and spacious stairs, large windows and open facades have been cut through the thick walls and narrow embrasure of the original old fortress, which was built to protect. And now its our task to make this place safe again.
S: Sir, but against whom do we need to protect democratic leaders?
O: From the people they were chosen to serve, of course!

Nice presentation of the story. It reminds me of a game level, something like max payne where you have soldiers places in discreet positons in a beautiful mansion It will be really interesting to see how you develop your image...good luck!
