Hello,
Lightscape, which is a stand-alone product, has been discontinued by Autodesk. It never was a plug-in. You would export/import files between max/viz and Lightscape. Current versions of 3ds max and Autodesk Viz provide a full-featured illumination toolset that is built-in. PKing |

You can export a Lightscape preparation file (.LP) from Max 9 and then import a Lightscape solution file (.LS) into Max 9 but unless you actually have a copy of Lightscape then thats not much use to you. You need lightscape to set up the materials and lighting and then initialise the preparation file and process the lighting to get a solution file. As already noted, Lightscape was rudely dumped by the inspired visionaries at Autodesk a number of years ago with the last update coming circa 2000. Unless you find someone kind enough to give you their old copy or heaven forbid do something illegal then you best bet will be to make the best of Max 9's integrated radiosity.

I think there was a plug-in for Max to load Lightscape vertex-shaded meshes. But if Max9 will directly open a .ls file then you wouldn't need a plug. Maybe earlier versions of Max couldn't directly open LS files?
I never used Max so I never downloaded the Max link file. The workflow was to run the radiosity but have it not store direct illumination, only the secondary light. Then, Max would use the same lights to add direct, which could include moving objects so long as you didn't mind them not being part of the GI. |
