Default Looking into Modo...

How well does it play with XFrog/Onyx models? Is the 3ds import ok? I have a good amount of 3ds objects that I dont want to lose. I haven't seen any posts on what Modo issues there are yet.

Modo is a great program. I have been using it for production work for more than 6 months now without major complains. Modo 203 has a dxf importer but it is far from perfect. I use AccuTrans.

I do not use xfrog or onyx but you can find some info here:

http://forums.luxology.com/discussio...907&show=XFrog

RPC content is not supported. The snap systme in Modo 203 is not perfect but it will be greatly improved in Modo 301. 301 will also support IES lights and it will have a basic animation system.

Here are some of my favorite works done using Modo by other artists:

Give the demo a try and see it works for you.

Also, check out the archvisuals scripts that Neil Hayes has developed for Modo.

Here is a WIP of something I am working on. I used those scripts a lot for this project.

Thanks guys.

I'm more interested in the rendering engine than anything. I'll continue to build in MicroStation...but there simply isn't much exterior arch renders to my knowledge. I cant figure if I want to bit the bullet and hope things look nice...or if I should look elsewhere like Cinema4D or something like that.

Arg. I hate the choices.

Cool. Thanks for the info man!

Want a few crits?

1. Where's the bump/displacement map in your bricking and shingles?

2. Your brick texture repeats funny...you need to go into PS and crop out either the top or bottom row cause as they meet, the align up as opposed to offset.

3ds works pretty decent into Modo. Carries Material Assignments, though it loses the texture links. You have to select and assign raster based images. Don't have any 3ds files with UVmapping to test...though if I remember the UVs import in.
