I have 2 stucco colors I want to put on some walls. I can only see the top color. To test it, I can apply the mat to spheres, teapots & toruses and it works fine. But, any time I put it on n object with a straight edge like a wall, a box, or even a cone, it only shows one color. What's up with that?

I tried it just like you did but in max and I'm getting the same results. Works fine on a teapot and torus, but no go on a box. I thought it might just need a UVW mapping modifier or a different material ID...but I can't get anything to work on a straight surface.

""The object's top faces are those whose normals point up. The bottom faces have normals that point down. You can choose whether "up" and "down" refer to the scene's world coordinates or to the object's local coordinates.""
In your box all side faces are with one normal pointing at 90 degrees in world coordinates. In cone situation is the same, but all side polys are with normals pointing up. Last edited by ameo; October 5th, 2007 at 07:23 AM. |

No matter local or world coordinates, all side faces have same normal from Z origin (90 degrees) and will be with same material (top or bottom), you cannot use this material in your case.
