Default Lightscape batch and VISTA
Hi Folks,
never posted here before coz always managed to figure it out but just now am at my wits end with LS and vista.
the main program works ok except that i cannot load materials. cannot "create material preview window"so cannot load them into an ls file.

so i tried lsmerge and none of the batch commands will run. cp window comes up with:

the grace period has expired please authorize this program"

??

ps have tried running with UAC in and off, administrator mode, elevated command prompt etc etc.

any clues

that seems like a very obtuse and unhelpful response to a request for help on a specific problem and, having just looked at v-ray and yes it's very nice great renderings but shelling out for 3ds max and v-ray and learning a whole new software package when all i asked for was a help to get a batch file working seems a long way to go.

i am infact looking at alternative software options and do appreciate your recommendation to look at v-ray.

i've been using lightscape since sgi days and ok call me an old stick in the mud but it's a fine piece of software and i'm really happy with it.

thanks anyway, i'm sure you meant well.

Thank you Nic I appreciate your apology. Vray looks really good but just need to get a few jobs finished on LS before I start looking around for new things. Will definitely bear it in mind when I've a few spare thousands of $$ and need new software coz it looks awesome.

Jerry, I've not used Lightscape for quite some time, but it is possible that LS may not work with Vista. Hopefully some others here can confirm, but given how long ago it was discontinued eventually it will hit it's end of life mark.

I love Lightscape though. I still have my original box on my shelf. I can't bare to throw it away.

There is no way to run the installer using Vista x64, but Thats what Iam using, and together with Lightscape

Dont know why though, there is something about Lightscape.......Except the radiosity artifacts...

But it´s still a very cool software.

This is how I done it. I had to install on my old Dell 32-bit xp workstation, I copied all reg entries and saved as a .reg file. Copied the installed Lightscape folder into the very same path from the root. For me it was c:\program files\Lightscape.

Here is the reg entries, you can just edit the serial, and or the path in any asci editor, like "notepad" etc.....

Just copy the text into notepad and save the file as .reg. Klick the file and you have all reg data as needed.....

Well glad I got it going eventually, was worth the effort, and thanks 'djmj'for all the posting on the registry stuff; thankfully not on 64 bit so didn't have to go through that, I admire your dedication to getting it up and runnng though.
For me it was just as simple as having installed it but then after, changing it to run as administrator, but then having to re-authorize it.
