I have a tricky one..
I have about 7 housing units, all created in Arch Desktop. I have then File Linked these into Viz 2007. Applied materials etc to them and saved. So I now have 7 separate Viz files, all containing my required rendered models. I want to now merge these with the site plan, to create the finished views. I thought I would try using Vray Proxies, as this would make the file easier to work on. When I choose to export from the individual house types, I am not getting a vrmesh file created. So I thought about binding the ACAD file in to my drawing, and then trying to export. Still no go. I haven't even attached the objects together yet as there are hundreds of them, and I know that to get materials to work, I should attach the objects and use a MSO materials to get them to render out correctly. I cant even get the files to export to a vrmesh file yet.. So, has anyone else done a similar thing using Arch Desktop and Viz.. I am looking for a way of making this easier on myself.. Many thanks

If you are using actual desktop objects (window, doors, walls, etc) there's an issue with the way they are named. Off the top of my head, I think the names have brackets on them (like: <Window>) and that's what causes some of the problems.
I downloaded this script: http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/renamify and renamed all of my desktop objects to get rid of the brackets. The other thing you have to make sure of is there can't be any duplicate named objects, because that'll screw up also. I think the other thing I had to do was collapse everything to an editable mesh and make sure there isn't any heirarchy on the desktop objects as well. It seemed to me the easiest thing to do was pick all the windows and attach them to one object. |

Cheers Chad..
Sounds like an arse ache of a problem..! I think what I will do, is compile the models into 1 desktop drawing, and then file link into Viz, and do it that way.. Other wise I could end up gettinmg into a few problems I think. Cheers..

It was definitely an "arse ache" until I figured out all of the steps I had to take to get it to work. Once that was worked out, it wasn't too big of a deal.

Thanks for your help Chad.
I will see if I can get it to work using Xref's for the time being. Might be able to load in and load out what I need on an "ad hoc" basis.
