pivot snap

SHORT TITLE FOR SUGGESTION/BUG/ENHANCEMENT REQUEST ---------------------------------------------------------------- When moving the pivot point, it would be nice to be able to snap to things, such as geometry, grids, etc. --------------------------------------------------------------- DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF YOUR REQUEST --------------------------------------------------------------- Currently there is no snap for pivot, and if I need an accurate pivot i have to manually copy and paste coords from a point in space to the pivot, thus wasting time. --------------------------------------------------------------- WHY THIS REQUEST IS IMPORTANT TO YOU --------------------------------------------------------------- It would speed up simple processes.

Um - am I wrong here? But I'm sure MAX has had this for many years now. What you have to realise is that in order to get the pivot space is to place your move over THE OBJECT NOT THE PIVOT - particularly true if the pivot is not contained within the object's bounding box.

i just tried, and failed, just to make sure i wasnt going mad. try drawing a box, and snapping the pivot exactly to a corner.
where ever you click on the yellow box on the move gizmo is where the pivot will snap to, so if for instance you click the middle of the yellow box and snap to a corner, you will get a different pivot if you click on the edge of the yellow box, and then snap to the corner. can you give it a try, it might just be me / my system....

That's what I was trying to say - don't try and move it from where the pivot is - stay away from the yellow box. Try it again but this time start by hovering over the side of the box - you'll see the pivot snap highlight - now click and drag to your corner. Just tried it here and it's working perfectly.

ok so how would you acurately snap the pivot to the lowest verticies on the attatched image?
i understand your technique if i was using a shape i could reference from, say a square as i could use the midpoints to snap it to a corner, but im baffeled as how i would snap to an irregular shape.

out of curiousity.... you do have the snap setting for pivot turned on right?
because with everything as matt said you should see a the bounding box for your object highlight to the pivot when you mouse over the edge of the object, that will grab the pivot exactly and then if you have your vertex snap on as well when you drag to a specific vertex your pivot will jump as expected.... |
