from the autodesk lightscape forum:

Hello all,

Last week Autodesk announced that Lightscape will be discontinued as of January 31, 2003 and will no longer be available for sale after this date. Autodesk will continue to support the product until July 31, 2003 and the Lightscape support website will remain active at least through this date. Jeff Mottle, Lightscape user extraordinaire and the tireless unofficial moderator of this forum, has generously offered to take over the hosting of this forum on his website CGarchitect.com. We’ll provide more details about this migration shortly but it should occur shortly after January 31.

We’d like to take this opportunity to personally thank all you dedicated users who have supported Lightscape over the years. Believe it or not, it’s been 11 years now since we put out that first SGI release – (10 bonus points if anyone on this forum recalls the color of the box). While it certainly will be sad for us to see the Lightscape name retired, we are encouraged by the fact that the ideas and technology that we started in Lightscape continue to be developed and supported by Autodesk/Discreet in their flagship visualization products – 3ds max and Autodesk VIZ. Through these popular products, our team will continue to advance the state of the art in design visualization.

Again, thanks for your continued support.

Best Regards,

You're KIDDING? NO! REALLY? I'm SHOCKED, simply shocked, who could have predicted this?

Why did they bother?

yeh...i feel gutted and i don't even own it....yet...i'm desparately trying to find a good deal on lightscape now that it's going to end as i don't want to miss out on what i see as a "milestone in rendering" closing it's doors on users..so far all i get is the rrp which is extreemly irritating seeing as it's about to bite the big one.

too much people buy autocad and lightscape = 4000 dlls aprox,

now they have to buy autocad and Viz4 or max 5 = 7500 dlls ?

Nice strategy .. not for us .... I think..

hi stephen,

i REALLY hope you guys 'can' make (or... 'they' let you make) a package that can equal the results LightScape does.
for me, it is a shame LightScape dies like this.
i used to like autodesk when they are small....(when they made autocad).
...and maybe revit goes in the same way, right?

best luck to all of you (LS creators),
nuno

hi
just to correct any misunderstanding.
the article above i posted was cut n pasted from the lightscape forum on discreet's forum area...i myself am not any part of the dev team on lightscape or work for autodesk/discreet...i'm just sharing the information so that people become aware that lightscape will be pulled from the product list at the end of january..

so anyone out there wanting lightscape better get a move on and buy it before you don't have the chance to anymore.

sad... very sad. LS was one of the few products that I thought still had some possibilities for it... An awesome product.. but as usual, swalloed up and spat out by the big boys.

So now Discreet dont make a renderer!... Bad show...

I sure as hell hope they never buy Brazil R/S.

They should make LS a free download after Jan 31st.. just like GMAX. Should be easy enough!...

Mike
