Better material override settings ---------------------------------------------------------------- Material override with better control and more options. --------------------------------------------------------------- DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF YOUR REQUEST --------------------------------------------------------------- I often use material override to perform AO, shadow, color, etc... passes and one large problem is the lack of the override to take opacity maps into account. I use flat planes to render plants in my scenes and if I run the material override with ambient occlusion as the material it doesnt correctly cutout the plants with the opacity maps. This means my scene is flooded with flat planes everywhere. If i turn off the layer with the plants and render then the AO pass is almost worthless since it doesnt cutout the plants. --------------------------------------------------------------- WHY THIS REQUEST IS IMPORTANT TO YOU --------------------------------------------------------------- There are ways around this both in MAX and Photoshop but they just add lots of wasted time to the process and it seems like this could be something which may not be too hard to program in. |

great one... I would would specify that I would like to see the ability to apply a material override at the a group level, while retaining the original applied materials when the override is disabled.

yup i think think this would be great, but i think a more useful way to approach this would be to have several key overrides, such as being able to over ride diffuse only, this way transparencys, bump, reflections etc would still be rendered. you could also have an over ride for bump, reflections, etc. this could speed up the workflow as having the ability to turn off each part globally could speed up tests.
