My take on the whole deal is that lightscapes technology has been encorporated into viz and max so they don't need to sell it as a seperate component. I would guess that the number of people that use lightscape and not viz or max was so low that they could not justify the cost of maintaining it as a seperate program...personally I am glad it is incorporated, it is easier to get my employer to buy one program then it is two...

Ahhhh!!! no no no!!! Lightscape is NOT incorporated into VIZ or MAX. While the desired outcome is the same and the technology similar it IS NOT Lightscape. It is like comparing Brazil to the MAX/VIZ renderer or Vray to MR. It is not the same...repeat after me people "Lightscape has NOT been incorporation into MAX or VIZ and I will not believe the markting hype anymore" Sorry this is one thing that drive me wild when I hear it. Because most resellers and vendors are not educated in the technology that drive these programs, they over simplify by equating Lighstcape to VIZ/MAx because they think it brnigs things to the lowest common denminator and makes it esier for people to undestand, when in fact all it does is piss people off. I can't tell you the number of people that bought VIZ/MAX becuase they thought the results and interface would be the same as Lightscape.
Anyway as far as I am concerned Lighsctape still renders better better quality. Admitantly LS does lack many of the great feature that are in MAX/VIZ, but I am still using LS until the speed an quality improve or until I have time to learn Vray and Brazil. On another note and more in following with the contents of this thread, I spoke to the guys at Lightscape/Discreet and was told that the licensing agreement will still be intact even though the product is discontinued. Also, you may want to look into the legality of being able to transfer licensed too as Adesk just recently banner the sale of ACAD on ebay so I'm assumign that it is probably a company wide policy. Personally I think it should be a free for all, but hey that's just me. Quote:

hi people!
well i'm a proud owner of a copy of lightscape now!....and a big thank you to john in USA for donating one of his lightscape seats..all i need to do now is read thru all the user guide [350+ pages] and the learning lightscape manual [250+pages] and i'll be set to start my quest as a lightscape user...i know the path of learning lightscape is not a simple one but i'll be sticking with it until i make some commercial use out of it..never give up, never surrender! [galaxy quest!] and another note that i became a new user on the day autodesk retired lightscape! I'm going to try and add to the people flying the lightscape flag even though the owners have closed the door on it! no doubt i'll be back here in a few days/weeks time asking some newbie questions on lightscape! cheers all steve g

well, if only it were that simple!
I was lucky [i seem to have a lot of luck lately!] that there are some most excelent people around on this planet amongst the other less than shining examples of human types!!!..and one of them did a great thing for me....i've also just been given lightwave 5.6 last week from newtek so that i can connect my lightwave scenes that i make in lw7.5 into and out of lightscape..i'm using lightwave 5.6 as a filter!!!!so i'm not going to mention the other things as i'd be seen as boasting!!!!but once your on the right path [legit software] i seem to get some good deals from software companies [training materials, full software etc] orangeshy so far i've not had a great deal of time to get into lightscape but now that i can transfer lightwave scenes i'll be on it! and don't be too harsh with my first renders from lightscape...i'll be learning still! stee+cats www.cresshead.com
