Compositing is a great topic. We will gladly present some tips and tricks.I bet Neoscape and Uniform would like to do the same. Maybe we can each pick a different area and group it into a session. Let's find out what everyone wants to know about the most (Green Screen, Camera Tracking, Rotoscoping, 2d effects, etc).

I would love to see Brady Forrest talk about 3d GIS and emerging technologies:

Here's another thought for the conference. How about a small Career Fair? Would that complicate things too much? Maybe some of the larger studios can set up (and pay for) some small booths...Just a thought.

Maybe if there are any new technologies in navigating your 3D scene that arent just for lowpoly gamers.
Google Earth integration possibly, I have a friend in the sketchup/google earth area of Google if you need a contact.

We would be up for this, another area I could offer some information would be maxscripting, I am no Bobo, but I have built a couple of useful scripts over the years. One other area that could be focused on is camera animation, strategy as well as practice (in Max).

Just an Idea

Hi all,

Before I start some general ideas... from BOTH sides of the planet ,-p

Quote:
The industry is moving towards BIM so we want to be able to accomodate both visualization and BIM in our conference.
Is the industry really moving this way? Or do some parties 'want' the industry to move this way? (srry, for the negative tone, if any...)

Based on the reaction in this thread, I see arch.visualisers wanting technical background/tips more than an industry lecture, probably because everyone prefers to be 'an artist' more than someone putting data in a system...

Personally, most past BIM-information sessions I attended, felt more like an endless cry for people to actually do the job (or put in the data.)
But it feels (to me at least) this isn't anything to be enthousiastic about!
What artists wants to be a data-chief-input-person-...?

So from the minds of CEOs I see/feel the benefit of BIM - there IS a serious benefit once these models exist - but who would want to put the data in??? From the artist-side this feels like a voluntary prison... Hence the cry for hands...
Which of course could be solved when everyone gets paid at least 5x more than now, working only half the time... ;-ppp (moeah)

So much for the defend of the artist...

On the other hand, tons of repetitive work is not much fun to produce either, and with the grow of the industry, this is becoming a reality/nightmare...
E.g. model/map entire cities, buildings etc... it's hard! and slow!
Think: model cities for MS Live, GE,... etc.

SO...

To me the future is more about COMBINING both:
- artists need software/techniques to do TONS of work very rapid automatically or semi-automatically
- but they also need fine control and possibilities to output their 'data'/models or to make them extremely accurate
(to me the future is not BIM-only, nor art-only)

And from here on, I'd like to propose an a focus on 'automative (modelling/mapping/and MORE) techniques' as a topic for the conference...

Automative being automated/semi-automated modelling of buildings/cities (thinking about Nverse Photo and alike www.precisionlightworks.com ) or automated mapping (Photomodeller etc.) and getting these things in a database etc...
MORE being all the additional information that BIM stands for...

i.e. it would be wonderful if the conference could give some answer to one of my most basic attitudes in archviz.
How to produce tons of good/accurate work in almost no time? (So that the focus can be on the service/decisionmaking, not the technical side)

rgds,

nisus

ps/ just rambling inbetween heavy migraine-attacks...

Hi All,

Here is a small summerize of my thoughts:

IMHO, it would be great if the conference could focus on the following issue:
Quote:
Basicly I'm looking for the following solution: Say I need to model a specific site in Brussels (Belgium, EU).
- I would like to spent only ONE day on modelling/mapping most of the buildings, so that would have to be almost full automatic.
- I would like to spent only ONE additional day for a more detailed model of a specific site, using software like Nverse or alike (if any...)
What solutions/programs/workflow would you recommend for this?

Side topics to this can be:
- GIS: how can it enhance ones workflow (rather than irritate/frustrate)
- GE/MS VE for archviz: beyond just adding your model and done

rgds,

nisus

That's awesome! Those are 2 excellent areas that make the difference between a good animation and a great one.

I don't mean to repeat what I already posted but I think it's clear that BIM is one of the least desired topics that people want to hear about. I would love to see more specific lectures on the process of creating a well composed image or what kinds of things one should consider when creating a camera path in an animation. In the past we have had more general lectures with people who are in the movie industry but this has little direct relation to how the normal 3D artist works or what they run into as their projects take shape. I'd like to see more down to earth practical lectures that deal with real issues and solutions to them instead of the more corporate stuff that we got last year. I look at this conference as a way to increase my knowledge and skills to make my self a better artist, that's where the value lies.

Please see my post regarding this here: http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/28033-...tml#post193275

As far as the marketing visualization sessions are concerned all of the sessions are inline with what you are asking. The website is scheduled to go online next week, so you will be able to see the specific topics at that point in time. I'm sure everyone will be pleased with the sessions this year.

I agree that DMVC is an excellent event for learning new skills that will help us to be better artists. But, what's the point of being a great artist if you can't find work or don't know how to manage a client or can't collect outstanding invoices? There are many other "real" issues that we need to face up and deal with on a daily basis. If we all were to just stick our heads in the sand and ignore everything else that's happening and evolving in our new industry, I guarantee you that one day we will wake up and realize that things are not the way we want them to be.

Also, it's not very often that we all get together. We all have different needs and interests, but we share a common goal. Career success. So let's all open our eyes and minds and help to make DMVC 2008 an awesome career enhancing experience.
