Default Max 64bit

Hi,

Having been unsuccessful in turning on the 3GB switch, which has led to an inability to boot, I have decided to install a version of windows XP X64 in order to benefit from the 4GB Ram installed in my computer. Subsequently I will install max X64.

Before I do so I have a few questions regarding the change over.

1. Will my max 32bit files open in max 64bit?

2. Once a file is saved in Max 64bit can it then be opened on a 32bit version?

3. I have Vray v.1.5 will this still work ok in max 64bit or is there any addition procedures required?

4. Finally, is anyone aware of any programmes that are not compatible with windows XP X64?

If anyone can help me with these questions I would be very grateful. I am pretty nervous about the whole thing.

Thanks,

Joe

My curtrent system is:

Intel Quad Core Q6600
4GB Ram
Studio Max 9 32bit
Vray v.1.5

everything works ok, don't worry. Max files can be loaded and saved with no problem between 32 and 64 bit versions. You will have to install the 64bit vray to benefit from the new architecture though.
I use Vista 64 and all of my major software works ok (max, vray, maxwell, fry, Photoshop CS3, After FX CS3). Only my Logitech setpoint 64bit drivers seem to cause some problems from time to time (which is inexplicable since they are 64bit) and I know that if you try to install previous versions of Autocad (2006-2007) they will notify you about incompatibility but they will run fine.

While 64 is fine for all your graphics programs, beware that other misc. programs may not work or become unstable. if this is a machine at your work check with your IT department. after we switched to 64 several of our network customization scripts no longer worked. doesn't matter much for 3d stuff, but things like connecting to network drives and payroll applications no longer worked. as mentioned, some plugins have 32 and 64 bit versions which will need to be switched to 64.

I was worried too... Now, I own 4 64bit quad cores and the only real problem was configuring a dual 32-64 Vista bit installation (but that was due to a specific motherboard bios problem) in one of the pcs (another dual boot configuration in another pc had no problem).
All software installed normally, so my worries had no real base. Hope this works out for you too.

Also install you 32 bit MAX along with 64bit...we found that some plug-ins do not work in 64bit.

guys i have 8 gigs too with (xp64/max64/vray64)
the problem i have is; i try to test render evermotion interior scene and the Ram wont go more than 4 gigs all the time.
I switch boot.ini with \8GB ; it said available in task manager but max64 just wont take it.
It cant be because of the process doesnt require ammount of 8 gig of ram; because I tried to render in 20.000 x 10.000 resolution and still just take less than 4GB

Is it possible that RAM speed or Graphic Card affecting this?
all I can see is that 8 processor always runs in 100% mode (task manager)

how much affecting the speed of ram (fully buffered/ecc) from 533/667/800mhz for rendering purposes (max+vray)

my processor is 2x quad xeon 3ghz 1333fsb
and the test renders mostly done around 30 minutes in 1200x600 resolution
weirdly, max32 in the same system is 5 minutes faster

thanks alot

Congratulations, you have now posted THE EXACT SAME THING in every thread containing "64". That's spam. I've deleted most of the posts, please don't do that again.
