Default MR Animation Exposure EXR's ?

Just wondering what everyones workflow is when rendering out animations in Mental Ray.
I've done a few over the years, in Max 9 for an Exterior to interior animation I would animate the Logarithic Exposure. I could do the same thing in MR_photographic, but I'm thinking of rendering to EXR's and adjusting the Exposure in AfterEffects. Has anyone had experiences doing this ?
Is the Exposure/tonemapping controls in AfterEffects as good as MR_photographic ?
Whats the best settings if I'm rendering to EXR, do I change the exposure to logarithic and deactivate it or do I have no exposure at all ?

cheers
