Hi Jeff,
the competition looks fantastic. I'm absolutely gutted that I won't have time to enter this year - it's just too short notice to be able to fit it in. Is there any chance next year of having a bit more warning that it's coming up? I.e. letting us know the dates that the competition will span well in advance, even if you don't give out any details about content? Love the challenge-based submission image idea - it's gonna be really interesting to see what people come up with! Cheers, Derek |

I can try, but usually it all ends up coming together in a few weeks. I don't have a hard and fast rule when I start the competition and I was debating if I was going to do it again this year, but in the end we landed a great partnership with the guys at Mundos, so here we are another year.

Sorry, but I'm at a point in my process on image 3 where I need to do a bit of rules lawyering
Can we: -Weld vertices for reasons of memory management -Subdivide or unsubdivide the mesh -Assign different materials to different polygons in an object -Manually subdivide the mesh for materials assignments -Use a "cutout" shader function (e.g., makes holes in areas by making material opacity 0) -Use phonging to make the curves smooth |

Within reason, but not to the point it starts to drastically displace and alter the original geometry. For example some texture for a wall or floor, tile lines etc are ok, but not displacement maps.
