Well, the new Modo is out, so I have giving it a spin on some older models. I haven't posted an interior so, I resuscitated 3dAllusion's Kitchen Challenge model, added a few SketchUp models, a Bialetta Coffee pot from Michel at pushpullbar.com, added a light or two and hit the render button. Rendering seem a bit quicker. I still have some work to do on the plants in the vase, base along the wall etc.
Modo 302 seems a bit more stable and a pretty good update overall. Last edited by jake256; April 7th, 2008 at 06:17 AM. |

I am amaised that there have been no replies after 100+ views
That is a very nice render, can you post render details. I am getting more and more impressed with MODO as it grows up. I'm not a user just been following its progress. jhv |

Nice render! I was going to say that if I was in the market for a modelling/rendering package I'd definately consider Modo. Since the scene is all imported, I can't really see Modo's modelling potential, but what you've done with the render engine is looking pretty good.

I've seen some very nice, photorealistic renders on Modo's website.
If I hadn't invested thousands of dollars in tutorials for 3DS Max, I'd consider playing with Modo. That, and I'm old and I'd have to 'push' some info out of my brain to make room for Modo info. hehe Very nice render, mate.

Thanks folks. I appreciate the comments. I usually don't post much, but I kind of liked this one. There are still issues, but probably good enough for my purposes.
Justin, This was lit with some illuminated geometry, an ies light, a couple of area lights and global illumination. I just threw a bunch at it to see what gave me the best results. Pretty simple setup. I probably went overboard with settings, but I wanted to see what overboard would look like. This image was rendered at 4200x4200 with IR rays at 512 and most over the other zillions settings bumped up. Took 12 hours on my dual quad desktop. Truthfully, I did a couple with settings turned down and the difference was really negligible. The render included with this post only took 30-45 minutes as I recall (3,200x3,200). Not all the lights were in place yet. If you need specifics, just ask and I'll do what I can to get the right info to you. Fran, Thanks. I've seen your work. It's an honor to hear that from someone of your abilities. I wish I could get to that level with my work! I don't use the modeling too much because most of the time "speed" is an issue. I make all the architecture in SketchUp and import furniture form different sources depending on the job. I don't believe Modo is ready for prime time when modeling ArchViz work quickly. Maybe one day. It is a very good modeler for other fields though–just take a look at the Luxology site and you will see some very nice work. SandmanNinja. Thanks. I'm old and me head is clogged up too! |

jeff, when you say you added sketch-up models, which ones to the seen?
I came across modo a couple months ago and was eager to purchase it but waited b/c at the time with 301, they were still working out the bugs with importing sketchup models. with 302, i believe the issues have been resolved and I really want to see someone's work strictly of a sketch-up model imported into modo302 to render it. I usually use Podium, but for now it is a single-proc app. and having a quad-core, I am not crunching the compute power as I could. |

Chris,
Just about all the accessories in the scene are SketchUp elements exported as objs. then imported into Modo one at a time. The bowls and spoons in the back came with the scene from 3dAllusions Kitchen Challenge (Branko made the model of the space and counters) I didn't have much luck with the Sketchup importer from Modo do I have really forgotten about it and haven't used it anymore. Maybe it's better now. |

got no room in your brain?
well try weed it is proved in studies by Canadians to: Marijuana May Stimulate New Brain Cell Growth Science – A synthetic chemical similar to the active ingredient in marijuana makes new cells grow in rat brains. What is more, in rats this cell growth appears to be linked with reducing anxiety and depression. The results suggest that marijuana, or its derivatives, could actually be good for the brain. http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn8155

Why is it I have to prove my age twice to look at a Heineken tv commercial at the Heineken site, but anyone can go to Barnes and Noble and buy any of 8-10 books or magazines on the use and propagation of marijuana, an illegal substance to use or possess according to all the newspapers I have read recently. Funny world we live in today.
Thanks for the great tip Antisthenes! |
