Question What types of companies hire arch viz people?

I don't really know what you'd call them. Not Realtors right? What are these companies that hire people to model houses or buildings? I don't even know what to search for to find postings.

Often developers will hire visualizers, but the most demand I have come across has been direct from architecture firms. If you can build up a relationship with firms, they will use you a lot, you need to make them comfortable with the knowledge that you can deliver what you say you can...

Try Dubai... there are not nearly enough good visualisers here.

I got my current job by including architecture firms in my job search. Here in NYC, the greatest percentage of listings for 3D work were with architectural firms (at least when I was looking).

On a lark, I also checked out some Hawaii listings (hey, why not?) and there were actually quite a few architectural firms looking for ArchVis.

Hey thanks. But all the jobs I see when I search want you to know a strict CAD program; usually 3ds (which is what I use) is not even mentioned or is listed as "a plus". So what...do I have to learn a CAD program now too?

I only know enough AutoCAD to be able to pan around files that are sent me. Max (and Photoshop) are really the only two pieces of software I know.

Maybe focus your search on "3D" rather than "Arch Vis" (or similar words), or maybe it's just a timing issue?

I do search for those things. But they usually still want you to know a CAD program...

when in Rome do as The Romans do, wheninf France french.

well Then give Them what They want (for hiring purposes)
Learn a cad program, most likely autocad 2d and basic 3d

This will definately increase your marketability
and also make you more productive at work, if

you had To deal with autocad or cad files

just an idea

i got 40,000 hours of autocad but need To learn 3d (more better)

If you do 3d arch viz, you will be given drawings in an autocad format and you will be expected to breeze through them. Spend a month or so learning it for around 6-8 hours a week and you'll be good to go.

That being said, them listing 3ds max as just a plus sets off warning signs. Are you looking at very small production houses with a lower standard of 3d? Most places demand you know a certain renderer too now.
