If your going to run one Xeon, I would get a regular motherboard and not a server board.

So is that your render farm, and you want one dual-quad as your workstation?

hi,

Sorry i cannot seperate PC and workstation.

Actually i want to by 2-3 more Q6600(pc) with the same old ones. But some guy said that i should buy :
-Intel server board S500XVN
-CPU Quad_core intel Xeon E5405 or 5410
-Ram Wintec 4G
-Power 650 cooler master V2.2
-Card 512 8800Gt.

This WS can connect with 3 PC Q6600 which i have been bought them.Because now we have big project need to render. And in future we can update easily.

Thanks

I don't understand what your requirements are. A Xeon box without dual CPUs is not much different from a Core 2 box. A Xeon box with dual CPUs will render about twice as fast as a Core 2 box. A Xeon box is a lot more expensive than a Core 2 box.

If what you need is 2-3 more desktop PCs and the Q6600 boxes meet your requirements, then ignore the guy who told you about the Xeons and buy the Q6600.

Thanks AJLynn,

I will explain what i would like to do like that:

1. Now i had 3 CPUs Q6600 with Aus p5k, 4g.ram, 512Mb gefore 8800GT, it mean i had 3 nodes to render. But dont have a server.

2. I would like to buy 2-3 more same old ones. I mean buying 2-3 CPUs Q6600 with Aus p5k, 4g.ram, 512Mb gefore 8800GT, and link them together becomes 5-6 nodes to render with backburner.

3. Maybe in the future i can update with 10 or 12 nodes to render.

What can i do: buy the Xeon( i know xeon will render fast as 2 times with a core 2) or continue with 2-3 more Q6600.

Can you explain to me about workstation?

Thanks very much.

It's just what you said - larger number of computers or one that is faster. You need to decide which of those options you need more.
