Hi Guys, haven't posted in a while...Guess why?
I just got an e-mail form Ballistic that sent me previewing their book, and that got me disturbed. Have you seen the Gordon Grice The Art of Architectural Illustration Book-s? WHen are we going to see in this decade a book like it that is a gallery of the best 3D Architectural illustration made but after the year 2000? I am sick of looking at disfigured non proportionate humans and monsters in 3D books that cost me $150 including Fedex charges. I hope I didn't waste 15 minutes just now. |

I for one would love to see Ballistic (or someone else) produce an arch vis book of the same quality as their other publications - decent coffee table visualisation books seem few and far between at the minute!
However, I guess the main reason that the monsters / women theme is such a large part of the books is that this represents the proportion of practising CG professionals who are involved in this industry. Like it or not, that side of the CG industry relates closely to both game and movie production and as such is perhaps is a more 'exciting' option for those considering CG. That being said, arch vis seems to be a growing area of CG, so I think it's only a matter of time before someone or other produces a decent showcase of the industry's best work. (If you're after a decent arch vis book, the Hayes Davidson ones aren't too bad - available on Amazon.co.uk and from their own website. Anyone know any others?) |

I'm told it has been discussed. I'm not sure why it hasn't happened yet because I think there is a good market for it. If we want to see something like this we should all e-mail ballistic and let them know.

The material submitted for this year's Visualisation Competition is top notch standard and would be a real waste if not compiled into a 'priceless' book and DVD!

The New York Society of Renderers Portfolio Six is off of the presses and being shipped out in the next few weeks. I can easily say that it's got eighty pages of outstanding arch-vis. work, both traditional media and digital. I'll keep people informed as the books become available.

Id like to see ANYTHING like this in Aussie... I spent 2hrs going around 6 diff "book stores" (aussies call them newsagents) looking for ANY publication that represents arch viz... nothing. Got a architectural annual, a couple of contemporary interiors annuals and thats about it for inspiration...
