We had 3 people working on these for about 12 days from start (sketch) to finish (printing). Each person took on 1-2 images and did everything including modelling/texturing/lighting/ post work. We had regular reviews to try and keep a consistent style and story running through each image.
....still getting around to some high res crops! |

Thanks for the link there, Nic... and great stuff, by the way.
One thing I noticed in the video as it was breaking down the first shot (diver in St. Paul's), it looked like one of the layers was one whole normal map. Is that what I was seeing, or was that layer just a shot of all of the normal maps in one pass? Additionally, was there a reason for rendering the normal maps out in their own pass, or was it just mainly to use the colorful normal maps as a little visual treat in the video? |

The normal pass you see is a 'vray normals' element that we used in fusion too add specular highlights and some bloom in post, we ended up painting out alot of it as it didnt fit that well into our final!
Its a pretty useful element to use but more so for animation as you can use 3d lights in fusion too add extra animated rim lighting etc and bring out extra details if you want. |
