I don't mind compositing .... sometimes you can achieve the same look quicker in photoshop / after effects than noodling in max.

I took the render elements (color, diffuse filter, specular, raw GI, raw lighting, rawreflection) and composited them using blending modes in PS...hit it with the high pass filter for AA, then overlayed that on top. Once I got the image I wanted, I used the zdepth render element for DOF by applying it as a separate channel to the final image. Then, filter>blur>lens blur, using the zdepth channel as the source...tweaked some of the settings a bit to my liking and got this image.
Like I said before, it's really nothing new...I was just experimenting with compositing the render elements and using the zdepth for DOF. Someone mentioned rendering it straight out in Vray using DOF, and yes, that's fun too...but first of all it takes longer to render and you're stuck with what you get. I prefer using the lens blur filter in PS because it's quicker, it allows much more control of the final image, and it's easier/quicker to make any changes, at any time. |
