Yay! Another post. I think you did a good job - and your first post, too.

Welcome aboard.

Glad this sub-forum got you involved in the website - it's a great place.

Agree with your comment about the texture and lighting.
As I look at the original photo, there are multiple shadows under the bowl, so I'd say multiple lights were used. And the centre of the bowl almost looks over exposed.

Keep going - looking good.

Heh, nice work!
Some textures need tweaking in the images but its coming along nicely.
Like the photos very much, congrats to the person that digged them out.

Hey this is my first time posting an image on here. I'm just getting started as a 3d artist and am always looking for constructive criticism to grow. Just got the Advanced Arch Vis book by Brian Smith and that's how I heard about this site. So I gave a go at photo F let me know what you guys think. I appreciate it thanks

I modeled withe 3DS max 9 and rendered with V-ray it's my first time actually using V-ray and not following tutorials for that sweet program. I'm happy with my results for now, but know there's a lot of room for improvement

I was late to the post so hopefully it's not a dead thread

I really like the texture on the rear wall. Non-uniform and gritty. Heck, it looks like MY bathroom tile!

You captured the double-shadows of the bowl, too.

The middle of the bowl looks a bit overexposed, but that's the way it is in the original!

So, good job!

===

In the past I would close a thread, but I'll leave these open and if a photo from the past strikes your fancy, feel free to grab it and run! I'll respond to any post in any current or past thread.

(I wouldn't mind a crack at some of these, too, work permitting)

Thanks very much for posting, Trent, and we're looking forward to seeing more of your work in this section!

PS: That IS a great book, isn't it? I have both and love 'em.

Hey thanks, I look forward to getting in on more threads and building a reputation. These exercises are great I think... And yeah Brian did a great job with these books I don't have the first but his newest one has really taken me, in my opinion, from a hobbiest amateur to something a bit more professional. I appreciate you keeping up on your threads it helps newbies like me get started

Hey Guys,

I know this thread is pretty old but I thought I would have a crack at this anyway, just for my own learning as much as anything! Had good fun doing it, and I look forward to doing more! Any comments welcome.

3DS Max 2009, Mental Ray, Just using Final Gathering on Default settings, and GI, 1-16 Samples per Pixel... etc etc.

Cheers.
Will

Good stuff, mate! Nice shape, clean mesh, nice shadows/lighting.

I hope to have some free time this week to work on this myself.
