Well, my online class is over and I think I learned quite a bit.
I can now resume this sub-forum activities. This week's photos were generously donated by Claudio (thanks mate!). Photo A ![]() An exercise in basic poly editing and texturing - this could be a fun photo to work with. Photo B ![]() This would be the more challenging of the two, with some water, textures (wood, glass, tiles/shingles). To keep this one do-able in a week, it's perfectly acceptable to reduce or simplify the geometry of Photo B (i.e. make the windows square, etc). Feel free to use a texture for the shingles (with a displacement map perhaps). Advanced users may want to do a blended texture to get the look of the pylons going from a wet look to a dry look. Purely optional. This is my first week back, so we'll leave the voting open for a bit. |

And the voting supports that opinion... hehhe
Claudio took a nice photo. Yes, please do. The voting will run for a few days and then modeling can 'start' when it closes. I usually like ending the vote and starting the modeling just before the weekend, so we have maximum free time to work on it. |

With 8 votes (currently) in favour of Photo A, it's probably a safe bet that A is going to win. It's perfect for the timeframe for this endevour (a week).
I'll give it until tomorrow (my Sunday) and then open it up. |

And the winner is... A.
Thanks for taking the time to vote. Please post your WIPs and/or final render in here, thanks. Your work should be 800x600 or higher (so we can see the details). ![]() |

I finally got some free time to work on this. So far, I've got the basic geometry down. I'll be moving on to add the details like railings in here soon. So far the biggest pain has been matching the camera angle, because without knowing the focal length of the lens it's really hard to line something like this up. Because on this building there really isn't anything to draw scale off of, say a doorway or a window. You can assume that a typical door is 3 feet wide, then you can start working your way forwards and get a close estimate on the focal length. But this image doesn't have too many "typical" scale elements. I just had to make a decision that a typical panel was 6'x'2 and work from here. Which in real life, I'm sure is way off but I think I got it close enough as far as the camera location and settings.
