Default Scenes from Siggraph?

Any other photographers make it out to the LA Show & Tell?

I've got some pics I'll try to post shortly. Nothing as editorial as your pic. Nice shot.

that guy/girl looks lonely in the picture

from my experience there were hundreds upon hundreds of homeless living on the streets and in tents in downtown LA. I didn't take any pictures of them but i do wonder if there is a local Food Not Bombs group who feeds them free vegan food stuff.

The shuttle bus from my hotel to the Siggraph site approached from the south--the shiny/happy downtown seems to stick to the north of the convention center--and I noticed a lot of the dirty/lowdown that Cladio's wonderful photos depicts.

After a week of driving around LA my wife observed that the city is much more gritty than the common perception of it.

The day I was at Siggraph she had a weird LA experience. She was driving to a museum when a guy with a high-end Lexus stopped abruptly in front of her, got out of his car and came back to give her a hard time for 'almost hitting him'. She had no idea what event he could be referring to, but apologized immediately. This left him nothing to argue with, so, unsatisfied, he returned to his car, opened the driver's door timed perfectly for a passing bus to rip it completely off the car. Fortunately, the bus missed the guy.

How's that for priceless? My wife does not think its funny or see the value in witnessing a 'nobody got hurt' accident, but then she's not an artist. It just goes to show--in LA you don't get out of your car. Bad things happen.

Thanks for the picture, and I look forward to Jeff's.

Thanks for the comments guys...

The car story isn't too surprising in a way. I found that downtown LA has a palpable tension to it. I stayed at the Marriot (V-Ray Users Group) and did the walk to the conference and back every day. I did not take the shuttle. I like to crawl around on the streets wherever I go with my Nikon in hand.

I would regularly see young attractive girls carrying $300 Gucci bags with matching sunglasses and some poor soul right next to her looking for something to eat or drink out of a trashcan or dumpster.

The photo I posted happened rather accidentally. I had just made my way back from walking around in the barrio east of the conference, when I saw the "Evolve" banner perfectly framed by the grimy alley and then here comes this man just trying to scratch out a living picking up plastic bottles out of dumpsters.

Did anyone notice how the colors of his clothes exactly match the colors of the "Evolve" banner?

Uncanny.

I noticed that too the drivers in LA were always very upset needlessly and the city was very unkept.

I don't know if you visited the fashion district but, wow, what a place that was, not a name i recognized and tons of hustling
