Default Night Club Type Light Question

As you can see from the image posted that this football convention centre is needs brightening up so I was wondering what light's to use to really give the model a real VIBRANT and Contemporary Glowing feel to it.

Therefore, my question would be what sort of interior and exterior lights should I use to really brighten this model? I use VRay SP2 by the way.

err well make it night?
or dusk, a nice dark blue/purple ambient light and warm coloured lights inside in conjcuntion with a nice reflection map should look really good.

sorry what I meant to ask was specifically in terms of the different types of light (name of the light eg. Omni, spot etc.) should I use - I'm quite a new user of max and VRay that's why.

Thanks for your help btw Nic.

WOW! What a project!

I'm assuming that the footballs are made of some sort of "film". Why not illuminate them with the exact type of lighting that would be used in situ? The coloured glass on the lower floors is begging to be enhanced too. Mate, this is a lighting dream!

hmm, imagine what Fryrender could do to this?!

fryrender? pffft. would be slow and grainy imo

iaga id start with no lights on at all and slowly fill it up with different arrays of instanced lights. do you have a lighting scheme of anykind to follow? its a pretty interesting project to light!

Maybe some uplights (spots on the columns / internal structure) some detail lights inside the footballs (maybe vray sphere lights and a transulcent / 2 sided mat on the footballs) some blue lights / green accent lights combvined with general yellow/orange lights (plane lights?) and a simple dusk sky HDRI for environment? some other buildings/ horizon line would look great reflected in the glass here as well as help place it in the context.

Is it a more stylised or 'straight' image?

jeez there is so much you could do with this. start simple and strong in your lighting approach and work down to smaller lights too add detail to avoid gettign bogged down i reckon. I would probably do ALOT of post on a image like this as well.

I know this is supposed to be a 3D lighters dream, but me being a rookie I was a little bit apprehensive on how to go about trying to light this huge 50metre high football convention centre.

I really appreciate your help and comments - The footballs btw are 10m diameter and they are going to ecompass some interactive area's where you can walk in and do some crazy stuff. The balls are going to be made or some sort of plastic type cladding.

I need it to be as awe inspiring as possible so please keep those comments and techniques coming.

Hi, Just as a quick update can anyone tell me if I'm going about it the right way... (I have removed the balls, screens etc to speed up rendering):
