I've got a spline setup (shown in the attached picture) that started out as an ellipse with two circles attached, then swept (I tried lofting also, with the same results). When I apply the sweep to the spline, there are certain vertices that get all out of whack. I've tried everything I can think of to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks, Chad |

That takes care of all but one of the vertices, but the problem then is that the swept box becomes sloped. This is going to be a crazy bench when it's finished, so it needs to be flat on the non-looped areas.

can you copy the profiles that you are sweeping on that rail to different points along the curve and later change direction arrows so it spins the way you wish?

The problem isnt the overall swoops, its just at specific vertices. No matter what I do, it won't correct itself at those points. It seems like theres a kink in the vertex, but I can't figure out how to correct it. As a last resort, I might just end up doing them in sections since its kind of a "sectional" bench anyways.

I tried to duplicate it and mine came out pretty. I have had the same thing in past though.
A thought happened though - have you tried setting the spline to renderable w/ a rectangular section? Maybe that comes out pretty by magic. If so, smack the Edit Poly button and you're good to go. Other thoughts. It looks like two of the bad spots are the break points of a big ellipse. Maybe that sub spline started life backwards. Back up and reset start vertex on the sub parts. (I just did a test that didn't make it fail so this may not be your cure.) Go back to that vertex, select, right click, "smooth". You may then need to right click, "bezier" and readjust to get your specific shape back. Get in close and make sure you don't have more vertices in there than you think you do. Weld. Ideas but no sure help, sorry. |

I figured out part of the problem. I took an brand new ellipse, copied it, rotated it up, and applied the same sweep modifier to the two seperate ellipses. What happens is the rectangular sweep modifier gets applied at 90 degrees to one another, based on the original pivot point. So it seems like I need to change the "up" direction of the rotated ellipse. Anyone know how to do this?
